The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss’s willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels’ Mockingjay — no matter what the personal cost.
In the end I was just so disappointed that I regret even reading it. I am also too disappointed to write a long review. Too disappointed to say anything at all at the end.
1.) Reasons you chose this book
I loved book 1, it kept me on the edge of my seat, book 2 was a bit of a let-down since nothing new happened. It was the same formula, just not as good. But I still wanted to read this book and see how it all played out.
2.) Reasons you liked or disliked this book
I liked it because it was easy to read.
I disliked it because suddenly I did not like Katniss at all. I wanted to slap that stupid girl in the end. She kept begging to go and fight after not paying attention to anything. And what kind of idiots let her fight? Other people had trained while she lounged around and then she wanted some action too. Which only led to people getting hurt and killed. It was utterly pointless. Especially something that happened near the end. So yes it bugged me, a lot.
Here I also wanted a nice HEA, sure I got one (though she never chooses! It just happens. So I would not call that stupid ending a HEA), but I could not enjoy it when I closed the book disliking her and just feeling utterly disappointed with the whole book.
There are just so many things wrong with everything in this book.
3.) Reasons you are recommending this book
I am not!! Read book 1 and then read spoilers what happens. I would not waste my time in the end. Sure they are easy to read and still ok but for me, it just left a bitter after-taste. It went from awesome to wtf. I am so glad I did not buy the book.

Aw I am sorry that you hated it! Actually many people seem to do so. On the contrary I liked the 2nd and 3rd part more than the first. Lol at your desire to slap Katniss – I know she can certainly be insufferable at times, but I feel she is so much better than a lot of YA heroines.
I'm sorry you didn't like the ending. I didn't hate it, but certainly didn't love it. I still cried when I finished it though.
Book three was one of the best for me. I love all three books because Katniss is real. She doesn't always make the right decisions, it's unexpected and frustrating, and unputdownable because of it. I love her because of her faults, because of her insecurities. Horrific things happen to her, and of course she's going to collapse under the pressure- but underneath it all is her will to survive and protect those closest to her. As a real girl.
@MishaWell ok she is that and I think she was awesome in other books but here. First walking around like a ghost and then she wanted to fight. Ok yes you fought in the Hunger Games but this is war and others have trained every day. And then ending where she was all dead inside and "# helped her even though he had been tortured. I just lost all respect fops her through out this book@BuckyI do fear the whole book was a big fail for me 😦 @ImI do get that she collapsed but it also bugged me how someone much worse off helped her get through it. People loose loved ones every day. She should have mourned and dealt with the pain. That seems cold but how she acted in the end was minor considering other issues I had with her. Especially since her little escaped did not help one bit, it just got peeps killed
B,I love your honesty. 🙂 This series is not for everyone – as a matter of fact – I wanted to pull my hair out with all three books.That being said, I loved the series because it is unlike anything I've ever read. At times I was shaking my head in disbelief – at other times I had to put the book down and just walk away for a bit – but I always came back. LOLI hope the movie does the book justice.M
Eyre has a tag on Goodreads called "someone needed to be smacked" and it sounds like it would be perfect for this book… Alas.

MichelleI do agree with it being so good, but this last book just disappointed me and some things just did not make sense. And katniss was so not her old self through out the whole book. You didn't like the thrid book? You know, I am still gathering the rest of my lower jaw from the floor. I never knew when it ended up there, I was too busy reading your review. Very honest and moving…Katniss's folly was fully understandable for me. The girl had gone through too much to stay a normal, balanced and logical being. I loved the way she reacted after the death of her…well… closest family member. Despite being emotionally scarred she still showed that she cared really deeply. She didn't have time to mourn and move on, not really and, after all, she had been turned into a killing machine against her will. Chocolate ? Nothing works better on a disappointed heart that a mug of hot chocolate with honey. *hugs*
This is the first bloody honest review of this book I've read thus far and am so glad I did… that means I don't get to waste my money on this book… I already got book 1 which I won in a blog contest so I'll read that one… if I get tempted, I'll borrow this book from the library. I haven't heard the best reviews on the 3rd book. I have all 3 on my tbr and haven't gotten to them. I just know if I read the first 2, despite the reviews, I'll have to read the 3rd. 😛 However, thanks for the warning. :)Off to Stella's…
You're right that she didn't choose either Peeta or Gale in the end. She was just left with one of them. That was one of my biggest disappointments in the book. And this was my least fav of the trilogy. I feel for you!
I haven't read this series yet, but my husband thought Mockingjay was the weakest in the trilogy.
One of these days I'll get around to read these books. But I'm glad library has them. Everyone raving about these makes me wary…

When I get disappointed I get really disappointed and here, arghhhh, I just slammed the book shut.But do read book 1, I did love it because it was so very different.@MelissaLike many books it got worse and worse. I have this trilogy sitting on my kindle calling my name. My parents have both read the whole series and highly recommend that I read it. I've heard so many good reviews on the series…must read them soon. 😀

So sorry to hear this. I've only read The Hunger Games and have not yet read bk 2 or 3. I'm crossing my fingers hoping that I will like it more.

I understand the disappointment. I felt Katniss was shortchanged and choices were made for her – instead of by her. Case in point Team Peta or Team Gale. I still enjoyed it just for the nostalgia of the Hunger Games. Have you tried Divergent??

I was satisfied overall with the book, but I wanted to slap Katniss at times, too. My husband seemed pretty disappointed with it, though. He loved the first two books, but the third took him so long to finish and he was just meh about it.
